Precast/Prestressed Girder Help

File Menu

The File menu is used primarily for file management. This includes creating a blank file which will be used to create a new project, saving an existing file, and exporting a file to Substructure. Print management and Program Security are also managed from this menu. The commands available from this menu are detailed in this section.

Menu item Description Shortcut
New This command clears the workspace and creates a new project. <Ctrl+N>
Open Use this command to open a previously saved file.

If there was existing data in the workspace when activating the Open command, a message box will appear asking if you would like to save the latest changes to the existing file in the workspace.

If a default working folder has not been specified in the Show | Preferences dialog under Default Folder Name, the program defaults to the directory where the last data file was successfully loaded from whenever the user selects the File | Open menu item.

<Ctrl+O>
Save Use this command to save the existing project using the current name. This command is useful for quickly saving intermediate steps during a work session. <Ctrl+S>
Save As Use this command to save a project file under a new name. The previous data file will be retained under the original name.

Save Setting The Save Setting command allows you to save current data as default data. This is useful when performing repetitious designs with only a small amount of input variation. The Save Setting command will save the project information (i.e., design code, units, and span type), geometry, materials, loads, analysis factors, and project parameters. The next time the program is started or the File | New command is activated, these previously saved settings will exist as defaults. These values are stored in a Precast/Prestressed Girder settings file (*.cst).
Print The Print command is used to print the input and output data. The data can be customized for a specific span and beam or select parts of the results or project data can be printed.

The font may also be changed by clicking Change Font. Click Set Default Font to reset the font selection to the program default (Courier New, 9 pt.). A typical printout contains your company header, including file name, date, etc. The bottom of a printout includes the program name and input file path, the design code used, and units. Selecting the option for Enhanced Reports will present the results in the HTML format in the enhanced viewer. The options for printing are separated primarily into two groups - input data and beam specific data. This separation of output is expected to aid in the design review and checking process, and follows the data input flow in the program.

When the Enhanced Report option is selected, an option to Include Graphics in Reports is also available. The printout includes bridge cross sections and bridge elevation drawings under the Input Data section, and under the Output section will print required vs. provided Ultimate Moment and Vertical Shear graphs, computed vs. allowable stresses and analysis result (moment and shear) graphs for various load cases.

When printing load rating reports, you can use options to print summary reports printing controlling rating factors for all beams in the bridge, all beams in a certain span or even current beams in all spans.

<Ctrl+P>
Print Setup Use this command to activate the Print Setup and select the printer. To configure the selected printer or plotter, click Properties.
License Management Opens the Bentley Select Server License Tool allowing management of licenses.
Security This command displays current security status of the application.
Export to Substructure If an analysis has been completed, this menu item will allow you to specify a file name, which will be used by the program to write out reaction information from the static and live load analysis for continuous (multi-span) bridge models. This file can then be read into Substructure for further processing by its Live Load generator.
Exit Use the Exit command to exit Precast/Prestressed Girder. <Ctrl+E>
